Puppy Visits, Adoption Date & A Note to Interested Adopters

10/09/2010 16:57

The puppies are growing fast and the first adoption day is looming in the not-so-far distance. Officially, they will be 8 weeks old on October 24th, so this will be the day we will let them go home. If you cannot come that day, then we can work out a differnt date. This is just the fisrt day they will be old enough to leave mama dog.

Visit the Puppies

Since we are growing ever closer to the big day, I thought it might be a good idea to invite anyone interested to pay the pups a visit beforehand. I realize adopting a dog is a big commitment, and it is often best to see them in person before agreeing to make them a part of your family. I am not saying this is a requirement for adoption (I actually adopted their mom long distance and did not see her until we picked her up). However, I wanted to extend the invitation if anyone is intersted and has the time to get out to my house (we live in Beaver Falls, PA). Feel free to bring your children or anyone else that will be living with or helping with the pup.

The plan (which may change) is to invite anyone interested in seeing them to stop by the week before they are ready. So this would be between October 18th and the 22nd. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are generally later days for Allan and I, and we do not usually arrive home until after 6:30 or 7 pm. The other days I am usually home so any time is OK. I will have to verify this with my sister (I babysit for her on those days) so that may change. Please let us know if you would like to stop by so we can plan a time that works for everyone. No surprise visits, please (I need time to shower! :P).

Adoption Email Date & Arrangements

I will send out the adoption email on Saturday, October 24th. That way everyone has had an opportunity to visit if they want. For anyone who is not close to or familiar with Beaver Falls (we are about 3 mins from the turnpike off ramp, so you shouldn't have to go into town depending on where you are coming from), we can meet you somewhere within reason when you are ready to adopt the pup. We can go to Cranberry Township, Zelienople, Evans City, Butler, and possibly Wexford if necessary. There are a number of them so if you can come to us, that would be ideal. :)

Also, we have decided to keep two of them, Blazing Saddles and Teddy Bear. So those two are out of the running, but the rest remain available. Sometime in the next week I will get updated photos up because they have changed quite a bit. Some of them have more prominent markings and they are actually shaped like dogs now. :P

Notes for Interested Adopters

Finally, I have a few more things I would like to point out to interested adoptees:

1. All we ask is you take them with plans to keep them for their entire lives. That being said, if something changes, we completely understand and ask that you give us the opportunity to take them back first before doing anything else with them. These puppies have become a part of our little family and we want to see them placed in loving homes that will look after them for life.

2. Going along with #1, we would like to see each pup live as an indoor dog. Dogs are pack animals and they want to become a part of the family. It is hard to do that when they are kept away outside on a chain or in a run or fence. Of course, these little guys will love to go outside, but please do not make them live that way all the time. Spending more time with them will help you develop the strongest bond. :)

3. These puppies will need their shots and dewormings. Unfortunately this was not a planned litter, and taking seven puppies to the vet would cost us hundreds of dollars we don't have. We are not asking for any payment to adopt a pup (at least not at this point since we know who everyone is and feel confident they will be well cared for), but please take the money you would have otherwise spent on adopting them to get them vetted and fixed when they are old enough. Shots will be needed, and I believe they can be fixed at six months of age and older. Banfield pet hospital inside Petsmart usually offers wellness visits without the office visit charge on certain times during Thursday afternoons (or maybe it was Tuesdays, call them to verify when and if they are still doing this).

I hope I don't come across as sounding harsh, I don't believe I need to say these things to those who have already shown interest. However, I felt that it is important to at least point out these concerns for the sake of the puppies. Each of them has shown a great potential to be excellent family pets as long as they are given a fair chance. Many dogs miss that chance and wind up in bad places.
